Godavari, the longest river in India, flowing near Trimbakeshwar is the specialty of Trimbakeshwar.

Trimbakeshwar is located at the foot of Brahmagiri, the source of the mountain Godavari.

River Godavari is a form of Ganges.

When the river Ganga originatest Brahmagiri mountain, it disappears from there because

she wanted to be with Lord Shiva. Then she was imprisoned there by calling Godavari,

a small Kushawart Kund  built by Gautama Rishi, which is 400 meters away from Trimbakeshwar.

Sage Gautama wanted to take bath in Godavari’s water to remove his sin of cow slaughter,

so Gautama Rishi called Godavari Kushavarta Kundat.

It is said that if you bathe in Godavari water, all your sins will be removed.

Trimbakeshwar has become a very special place for all the holy things in Trimbakeshwar.

So people come to Trimbakeshwar to perform their many auspicious rituals.
