Mahashivratri In Trimbakeshwar

Mahashivratri is the Hindu festival of Lord Shiva, celebrated in the month of Magh. Every festival has a deep meaning in Hinduism. Mahashivratri is the night of Lord Shiva.

Puja, Abhishek, Meditation, and Rudrabhishek are done to Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga

People believe that those who worship Lord Shiva with a pure heart, Shiva removes all negativity and problems from their life.

Why is Mahashivratri celebrated?

There are many stories behind the Mahashivratri festival, and each story has a meaning. We know that Shiva is called Mahadev because he is the great god who created all the worlds. He has no birth and no end, that is why we also call him Swayambhu.

Twelve Shivratris occur every year on Krishna Chaturdashi of each month. Shivratri in February-March is the most important. People believed that on this day, Mata Parvati and Lord Shiva got married. They married in the region of Mandakini in the Himalayas. Where the eternal flame is burning from Treta Yug.

A story from the Bhagavata Purana, when the Samudrmanthan is happening between the gods and the Asuras, the poison comes out and no one is willing to take it. At that time, Lord Shiva drank the entire poison kept in his throat, so all the deities sat all night and praised Shiva.

“Neelkanth” is another name for Lord Shiva. From that night all the gods call to Mahadev ‘devo ke dev’,“ Mahadev”. And since then, that night celebrated as Mahashivratri.

The story in the Ling Purana tells that one day there was an argument happening between Lord Shiva and Lord Brahma who is the supreme God. That time, God told to Lord Shiva to Calm Down. To stop this argument, Mahadev comes in the form of Jyotirlinga. Jyotirling look like a pillar of light which no beginning and no end. Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma tried to find the beginning and end of that Jyotirlinga, but they failed. And they bowed down to the Jyotirlinga, they heard the sound of Om from Jyotirlinga and see in the center of the Jyotirlinga appeared Makkar, who was look like a moon. Akka, the sun and Ukar, the fire. Seeing that, all the gods, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Brahma are pleased to see this unique scene. So on that day Mahadev appeared in the form of shivlingas for the first time, so since then, that day celebrated as Mahashivratri.
